Well, I guess I had to know this was coming. It sort of goes with the homeschooling, homebirthing, organic earth muffin lifestyle that we now embrace.
(This is not to imply that I’ve abandoned all things girly…like makeup and cute bags. In fact, I never met a lip gloss or Coach purse I did not like. And I don’t think I could really ever pull off the denim jumper look. Or big hair.* Though I totally rocked the high bangs in 7th grade…but I digress.)
Anyway. This:

Babywearing.
I kind of, do that now. A lot.
What you see here is Emma asleep in the Moby Wrap. What you do not see is my face or body because 1) I have not yet showered and 2) am still in my pajamas.
But that’s not the wrap’s fault. It’s mine.
I carry my baby and rock my baby and have basically trained her to totally dig me. So, enter babywearing.**
I don’t mind it, and actually, it’s pretty handy to be able to hold her AND type AND eat AND waste time on the internet. Additionally, I can fold clothes, vacuum, clean the kitchen, and other householdy things. But yeah, it’s mostly just the internet.
Sean thinks I’ve spoiled her. Duh. Of course I have. But come on…you readers out there whose babies are all grown up. Do you REALLY ever sit around and regret that you held them too much?
No, I didn’t think so.
*No offense to the Duggars. I love them! They restore my faith in humanity after the trainwreck that are the Gosselins.
**Check out my favorite babywearing blogger, Stephanie!
Hey Nikki – I give this 2 thumbs up!! Anything that frees your hands up to to critical things like eat and be on the Internet I say yes! Baby Emma is absolutely precious…she is one blessed little girl to be in such a wonderful family. Take Care!
Hey Nikki!
I hope miss Emma is sleeping better.. We are making great strides in Aed’s daytime sleep
I have to say, I love wearing my baby and he loves it too, but I had no idea it went hand-in-hand with those other things!
You should just make sure she gets out of the wrap now and then so we can see her precious little face! Don’t want to deprive your audience..
Too funny! I’m for it as long as Birkas are no where in the logical conclusion.
“earth muffin”…love it! My dad uses that phrase all the time to describe his fellow Durango citizens.
So cute! I think wrapped-up babies are adorable.
I just ordered a Moby wrap. With my first, I just had a pouch sling, which I liked, but it wasn’t adjustable, so it was hard when she got tall and chubby but still wasn’t ready for an older kid carry. I also have a Bjorn, which I hated. Backaches galore. I feel bad because it was a very generous gift from my mom and MIL.
I think babywearing has become a LOT more normal in just the last couple of years. Everyone I know does it, from earth mother types to the more mainstream ladies. My sister’s youngest boy is only three, and she looked at me like I’d grow a third head when I went out and ordered a sling. And she lives in Earth Motherville, CO.
I can’t imagine why it didn’t catch on sooner. No matter what kind of parenting style you’re into, it’s far easier and more comfortable to carry around a baby with the aid of a sling/wrap than it is to carry her around just in your arms.
That is AWESOME!! I LOVE my Moby!! It was my first real carrier and it is still my favorite. And I have to say that I do not regret holding her – not one single second of it.
Back in the ‘good ole days’ – I had a gizmo that tied around the neck and waist. It wasn’t that comfortable, but it allowed me to carry Sean around and have the full use of my hands. I’m a big believer in “love-em & hug-em & and keep-em-close” as long as you can. You really can’t spoil them too much – isn’t Sean proof of that??? HA! (Remind him if he fusses too much!) Whatever ya’ll are doing is great – we have 3 fantastic g’kids as proof.
Love-n-hugs-n-kisses to all.

yay, you’re back on the internet AND baby wearing. does that mean we can get together for a walk/coffee soon? also, i still wear Eli and he’s almost 18 months old! spoiling them with cuddles won’t ruin them the way candy might
